Si parte da Malpensa Venerdì 28 Febbraio. Il gruppo questa volta è più numeroso del solito. Include il presidente Franco Farao con i volontari rappresentati da sua moglie Egidia Scapin, da sua figlia Saem Bo, da suo figlio Nhak Farao con la sua ragazza Sara Cretu. / We depart from Malpensa on Friday 28 February. Il 6 Marzo una parte del gruppo (Egidia, Saem, Nhak e Sara) andrà al nord a Siem Reap, per fare un tour dei templi di Angkor, per poi rientrare Domenica 9 Marzo a Phnom Penh. Il Presidente Franco Farao, con il responsabile di progetto Chin Sokkea invece si sposterà a Kampot / Kep per iniziare il lavoro al nostro Centro Diurno di Domnak Chamboak. / On March 6, part of the group (Egidia, Saem, Nhak, and Sara) will go north to Siem Reap to tour the Angkor temples, and then return Sunday, March 9, to Phnom Penh. President Franco Farao, with project manager Chin Sokkea instead will travel to Kampot / Kep to begin work at our Domnak Chamboak Day Care Center.
Lunedì 10 Marzo il gruppo si ritroverà ricompattato a Kampot / Kep, presso il nostro Centro Diurno, dove trascorrerà l’intera settimana fino al rientro a Phnom Penh, previsto per la sera di Venerdì 14 Marzo. / On Monday, March 10, the group will reassemble in Kampot / Kep, at our Day Care Center, where they will spend the entire week until their return to Phnom Penh, scheduled for the evening of Friday, March 14.

Torniamo più carichi che mai dopo la missione di novembre 2024 e le festività natalizie. Presto saremo ancora in Cambogia, dal 28 febbraio al 17 marzo prossimi.
Ma nel frattempo abbiamo organizzato, grazie all’amico Francesco e agli amici della Tintoria ILTEP di Fino Mornasco, un incontro di presentazione delle attività della nostra associazione in Cambogia. Sarà una bella occasione per incontrarsi e parlare di Progetto Kep e di Sostegno a Distanza (SAD).
Ci saranno la nostra mostra fotografica e il nostro mercatino solidale, per fare un po’ di raccolta fondi.

Il prossimo Venerdì 15 Novembre parte una nuova avventura. Parte la missione annuale a Domnak Chamboak, presso il nostro Centro Diurno nella provincia di Kep in Cambogia. / Next Friday, November 15, sees the start of a new adventure. Quest’anno non sarà solo il presidente Franco Farao a recarsi a Domnak Chamboak, ma ci saranno anche 2 amici e volontari, Grazia Mazzoleni e suo figlio Seila Longhi, che ritornano in Cambogia per la prima volta dopo l’adozione di Seila nel 2007. / This year it will not only be President Franco Farao who will travel to Domnak Chamboak, but also 2 friends and volunteers, Grazia Mazzoleni and her son Seila Longhi, who are returning to Cambodia for the first time since Seila’s adoption in 2007.

Si svolgerà Domenica 22 Ottobre presso l’Area delle Feste di Via Santa Caterina da Siena a Mariano Comense la 12^ edizione dell’evento Io Disegno per la Cambogia. / The 12th edition of the event Io Disegno per la Cambogia (I Draw for Cambodia) will take place on Sunday, October 22, at the Festival Area on Via Santa Caterina da Siena in Mariano Comense.
Evento animato dai bambini per aiutare i nostri bimbi in Cambogia. Rinnoveremo il nostro piccolo e divertente concorso di disegno, nel quale i bambini che verranno potranno sbizzarrirsi a realizzare i loro piccoli capolavori. Ci saranno premi per tutti e premi speciali per i migliori disegni votati dagli stessi bambini. / Children-led event to help our children in Cambodia. We will renew our fun little drawing contest, in which the children who come can indulge in making their own little masterpieces. There will be prizes for everyone and special prizes for the best drawings voted by the children themselves.
L’evento sarà anche l’occasione per l’estrazione della nostra lotteria annuale di beneficenza per la raccolta fondi per il nostro Centro Diurno di Domnak Chamboak nella provincia di Kep in Cambogia, con il quale sosteniamo circa 200 bambini/e e ragazzi/e dell’area rurale circostante. Ci sarà la nostra mostra fotografica e il nostro mercatino solidale di oggettistica cambogiana. / The event will also be an opportunity for the drawing of our annual charity raffle to raise funds for our Domnak Chamboak Day Care Center in Kep Province, Cambodia, through which we support about 200 children/youth in the surrounding rural area. Il 2022 speriamo davvero che sia l’anno della ripartenza. Della ripartenza delle nostre attività sul territorio e sul campo. Della ripartenza delle nostre missioni in Cambogia. Per queste ultime siamo già in parecchi in fila per partire appena possibile. / We really hope that 2022 will be the year of the restart. The restart of our activities on the ground and in the field. Il presidente Franco Farao sta pianificando una missione, dopo ben 3 anni di assenza, per il prossimo mese di marzo, molto probabilmente con il nostro amico Silvio Zagli. Gli amici Stefania Bertarini e Daniele Romano stanno pianificando anche loro una missione e al nostro Centro di Kep li aspettano con ansia e già hanno preparato vari lavori per loro. La nostra Jane Hartley deciderà alla fine di febbraio se e quando andare per la sua ennesima missione della durata di circa due mesi per l’insegnamento della lingua inglese ai nostri bambini. E altri probabilmente arriveranno in corso d’anno se davvero la situazione si normalizzerà. / President Franco Farao is planning a mission, after 3 years of absence, for next March, most probably with our friend Silvio Zagli. Our friends Stefania Bertarini and Daniele Romano are also planning a mission and at our Center in Kep they are anxiously waiting for them and have already prepared various jobs for them. Our Jane Hartley will decide at the end of February if and when to go on her next mission of about two months to teach English to our children. And others will probably come in later in the year if indeed the situation normalizes.

Si avvicina la conclusione dei lavori di ristrutturazione del vecchio edificio del nostro Centro Diurno di Domnak Chamboak. / The completion of renovations to the old building of our Domnak Chamboak Day Care Center is approaching.
I lavori sono stati avviati nello scorso mese di novembre, all’avvio della stagione secca in Cambogia, e dovrebbero essere terminati nella prima parte di gennaio. / Work began last November, at the start of the dry season in Cambodia, and is expected to be completed in the first part of January.
I lavori, partiti per la sostituzione del tetto dell’edificio, sono diventati strada facendo una vera e propria profonda ristrutturazione dell’edificio (acquistato nel 2014 unitamente al primo lotto di terreno). / The work, which started just as replacement of the roof of the building, has actually become a real deep renovation of the building (purchased in 2014 along with the first plot of land).
Oltre al tetto si è provveduto a eliminare una colonna interna collocata proprio nel mezzo del locale centrale dell’edificio, a rimuovere i resti della cucina nel retro dell’edificio, ad aprire nuovi varchi per l’accesso posteriore dell’edificio e a completare la chiusura delle pareti nella parte superiore del soffitto alla congiunzione con il tetto. / In addition to the roof, an interior column located right in the middle of the central room of the building was removed, the remains of the kitchen in the back of the building were removed, new openings for the rear access of the building were opened, and the closure of the walls at the top of the ceiling at the junction with the roof was completed.
Il programma di investimenti per il 2022 è in fase di definizione in questi giorni e presto avremo la lista dei lavori aggiuntivi più urgenti da effettuare. La manutenzione di immobili nelle zone rurali delle aree tropicali e subtropicali è estremamente impegnativa, come abbiamo imparato sulla nostra pelle in questi anni. / The investment program for 2022 is being finalized these days and soon we will have the list of the most urgent additional works to be carried out. Pubblichiamo alcune informazioni inviate dal nostro Responsabile di Progetto Chin Sokkea, sulla situazione del nostro Centro Diurno aggiornata alla fine del mese di Luglio / We publish some information sent by our Project Manager Chin Sokkea, on the situation of our Day Care Center updated at the end of July.
Attività del centro: il centro è rimasto aperto per l’intero mese di Luglio per l’accesso dei bambini che vengono a prendere i loro compiti e a ritirare le distribuzioni di alimentari. / Center Activities: the center remained open for the entire month of July for children to come in and pick up their homework and food distributions.
Sostegno alimentare: oltre al sostegno alimentare mensile per 119 bambini SAD, sono state effettuate distribuzioni di beni alimentari a 24 bambini del centro per offrire un sostegno alimentare con la consegna di una scatola di noodles.L’offerta di sostegno alimentare e la fornitura di compiti a casa per i bambini sono un buon modo per vedere i bambini ogni mese. Dalle notizie raccolte si evidenzia che diverse famiglie dei bambini del nostro centro stanno affrontando un problema di carenza di cibo./ Food support: in addition to monthly food support for 119 DAP children, food distributions were made to 24 children in the center to offer food support with the delivery of a box of noodles to each one of them. Offering food support and providing homework for the children is a good way to see the children each month. Distribuzione dei compiti ai bambini: quando alcuni abitanti del villaggio sono stati trovati affetti da Covid-19, abbiamo deciso di non permettere ai bambini di entrare all’interno del centro. Quindi al momento i bambini possono ricevere supporto alimentare e il loro pacchetto di compiti per la loro attività di studio all’esterno del centro. L’ingresso all’interno del centro sarà consentito ai bambini non appena la situazione Covid nel villaggio sarà migliorata. / Distribution of homework to children: when some villagers were found to be affected by Covid-19, we decided not to allow the children inside the center. So at the moment children can receive food support and their homework package for their study activity outside the center. Children will be allowed inside the center as soon as the Covid situation in the village improves.
In questo periodo di chiusura delle scuole alcuni dei nostri bambini hanno iniziato a lavorare nel loro tempo libero. A luglio, ci sono 10 bambini (5 maschi e 5 femmine) che hanno deciso di iniziare a lavorare nel tempo libero per guadagnare un po’ di soldi per sostenere le esigenze alimentari della famiglia. Questi bambini hanno deciso di impiegare il loro tempo lavorando perché non hanno uno smartphone o un computer per l’eLearning; hanno quindi deciso di trovare un lavoro non lontano dal villaggio, in modo da poter tornare a casa la sera. Quando le scuole riapriranno, auspicabilmente questi ragazzi torneranno a scuola. Quindi il loro impegno lavorativo non dovrebbe essere permanente (ci auguriamo, e terremo particolarmente monitorata la loro situazione). Attualmente 2 ragazzi lavorano come muratori con i padri, 1 ragazzo sta facendo apprendistato come artigiano nella produzione di piccola gioielleria, 1 ragazzo lavora al Crab Market (mercato del pesce e dei granchi) come venditore e 1 ragazzo ha seguito il padre nell’attività di pesca in mare. 1 ragazza lavora come barista e venditrice di caffè a Kampot, 3 ragazze lavorano nelle piantagioni per la raccolta di pepe, 1 ragazza vende succo di canna da zucchero al Crab Market. / During this time of school closure, some of our children have started working in their free time. In July, there are 10 children (5 boys and 5 girls) who decided to start working in their free time to earn some money to support their family’s food needs. These children decided to use their time working because they do not have a smartphone or computer for eLearning; therefore, they decided to find a job not far from the village so that they can go home in the evening. When schools reopen, hopefully these kids will go back to school. So their work commitment is not expected to be permanent (we hope, and we will be particularly monitoring their situation). Currently 2 boys are working as bricklayers with their fathers, 1 boy is apprenticing as a craftsman in the production of small jewelry, 1 boy is working at the Crab Market (fish and crab market) as a salesman and 1 boy has followed his father in the sea fishing business. 1 girl is working as a barmaid and coffee seller in Kampot, 3 girls are working in the plantations to harvest pepper, 1 girl is selling sugarcane juice at Crab Market.
Progetto di coltivazione: presso il centro è stato avviato un piccolo progetto di coltivazione di verdure e ortaggi. Vengono coltivate insalata, cavolo, pomodori, peperoncini ecc.. Quanto viene prodotto viene dato ai bambini che hanno più bisogno e ai bambini che stanno aiutando il centro nella coltivazione. Questa sta iniziando ad essere una buona attività per il personale e per i bambini che lo fanno nel loro tempo libero. Presto, dovrebbe anche arrivare una squadra di coltivatori che faranno formazione sia per il personale del centro che per i bambini. / Cultivation project: at the center it has been started a small project of cultivation of vegetables. Riparazione del tetto: una parte del tetto interno del vecchio edificio è stata danneggiata dalla caduta di noci di cocco causata dalla forte pioggia e dal vento durante un forte temporale nel mese di maggio; il tetto è quindi rimasto parzialmente rotto per due mesi senza essere riparato, in attesa dell’avvio del progetto di sistemazione complessiva del tetto con l’integrale rimozione dell’attuale materiale e la sostituzione con materiale nuovo e più moderno, oltre che non pericoloso come l’eternit attualmente presente. Tuttavia a causa delle infiltrazioni di acqua piovana nell’edificio, si è deciso deciso di fare una riparazione temporanea, per arrivare al momento in cui la sostituzione del l’intero tetto venga fatta (stiamo raccogliendo i fondi e ogni contributo in questo senso è sicuramente benvenuto). / Roof repair: a part of the internal roof of the old building has been damaged by falling coconuts caused by heavy rain and wind during a heavy storm in May; the roof has therefore remained partially broken for two months without being repaired, waiting for the start of the project of overall repair of the roof with the complete removal of the current material and replacement with new and more modern material, as well as not dangerous as the eternit currently present. However, due to the infiltration of rainwater into the building, it was decided to make a temporary repair, to get to the time when the replacement of the entire roof is done (we are collecting funds and any contribution in this regard is certainly welcome).
Situazione Vaccino Covid-19: ad oggi 9 componenti dello staff del centro hanno ricevuto la prima dose del vaccino. Così pure tutti gli abitanti del villaggio nell’area dove stiamo lavorando hanno avuto anche loro la prima dose. Al momento i ragazzi sotto i 18 anni non hanno ancora il permesso di avere la vaccinazione. / Covid-19 Vaccine situation: as of today, 9 staff members of the center have received the first dose of the vaccine. All the villagers in the area where we are working have also had their first dose. At the moment children under 18 years old are not yet allowed to have the vaccination.
Situazione generale nella Provincia di KEP: gli abitanti del villaggio hanno imparato a indossare la mascherina e a preoccuparsi del Covid-19 quando si sono verificati i primi 2 casi di morte. Attualmente il programma del governo provinciale di KEP è quello di fare un test Covid-19 a tutti i venditori nella provincia di KEP il mese prossimo (ndr Agosto). / General situation in KEP Province: villagers learned to wear masks and be cautious about Covid-19 when the first 2 cases of death occurred. Currently the plan of KEP provincial government is to do a Covid-19 test to all vendors in KEP province next month (i.e. August).

I bambini della scuola primaria non hanno ancora lezione alla scuola pubblica e non c’è e-Learning; sono disponibili solo i compiti forniti dal nostro centro. / Elementary school children still do not have public school classes and there is no e-Learning; only homework provided by our center is available.
Solo alcuni bambini della scuola secondaria e della scuola superiore possono accedere all’e-learning, altri non possono perché non hanno uno smartphone. / Only some secondary and high school children can access e-Learning, others cannot because they do not have a smartphone.

Ed eccoci ancora a Natale, ormai vicini al termine di un anno molto, molto particolare. E’ stato un anno sicuramente non semplice, sia dal punto di vista dell’attività di raccolta fondi qui in Italia che dal punto di vista delle attività del nostro Centro in Cambogia. / And here we are again at Christmas, nearing the end of a very, very particular year. It has certainly not been an easy year, both from the point of view of fundraising activities here in Italy and from the point of view of the activities of our Center in Cambodia.
Le nostre Jane e Fernanda hanno fatto giusto in tempo a concludere la loro missione a Kep in Febbraio, per rientrare in un’Italia già alle prese con i primi effetti del Covid e correndo il rischio di rimanere bloccate in Cambogia, visto il successivo blocco per diverse settimane dei voli in e out dalla Cambogia. / Our Jane and Fernanda were just in time to conclude their mission in Kep in February, to return to an Italy already struggling with the first effects of Covid with the risk of being stranded in Cambodia, given the subsequent block of flights in and out of Cambodia for several weeks.
L’attività del nostro Centro, come quella delle scuole pubbliche cambogiane, è rimasta bloccata da Marzo sino agli inizi di Novembre. Poi un periodo di apparente ritorno alla normalità nel mese di Novembre e alla fine del mese di nuovo il lockdown, coincidente con la nuova chiusura delle scuole pubbliche, a seguito di casi Covid che hanno toccato le alte autorità cambogiane. In realtà per quello che emerge dalle notizie ufficiali, la Cambogia è stata toccata solo in misura marginale dal Covid, se è vero che i casi sono stati in tutto circa poco più di 300 (di cui oltre la metà stranieri). / The activity of our Center, like that of Cambodian public schools, was blocked from March until the beginning of November. Then a period of apparent return to normality in November and at the end of the month again the lockdown, coinciding with the new closure of public schools, following Covid cases that have touched the Cambodian high authorities. In reality, from what emerges from the official news, Cambodia has been touched only marginally by Covid, if it is true that the total number of cases was just over 300 (more than half of which were foreigners).
Oggi andare in Cambogia è praticamente impossibile perchè non vengono rilasciati i visti di ingresso, nemmeno quelli per motivi di lavoro, come potrebbero essere quelli che ci portano ad andare a portare avanti il progetto della nostra associazione laggiù. / Nowadays, going to Cambodia is practically impossible because entry visas are not issued, not even for work reasons, such as those that might lead us to carry out our association’s project there.
Nel frattempo i lavori di costruzione delle nuove aule è andato avanti, pur con tutte le difficoltà del caso, sia qui per il funding che là per i lavori. Avviata nel mese di febbraio, la costruzione, come ormai sapete, è stata terminata nel mese di agosto. Manca ancora l’inaugurazione ufficiale, per la quale il nostro Sokkea sta aspettando che noi riusciamo ad andare a Kep, e nel frattempo è stata fatta la tradizionale benedizione da parte dei monaci a titolo beneaugurante per il futuro della scuola, come da usanza locale. / In the meantime, construction work on the new classrooms has gone ahead, albeit with all the difficulties involved, both here for funding and there for the work. Started in February, the construction, as you know by now, was completed in August. The official inauguration is still missing, for which our Sokkea is waiting for us to be able to go to Kep, and in the meantime the traditional blessing by the monks was made as a good omen for the future of the school, as is the local custom.
Come sempre ci siete stati vicini, ci avete aiutato in questo difficile momento che ci ha visto impegnarci finanziariamente per la costruzione, con un investimento di oltre 31.500 USD per la sola costruzione, proprio nel momento in cui la raccolta fondi qui si fermava. E’ stato un anno di forti sensazioni, in cui abbiamo dovuto stringere i denti e fare stringere i denti anche allo staff in Cambogia. / As always, you have been there for us, helping us through this difficult time that has seen us commit financially to the construction, with an investment of over $31,500 for the construction alone, just at the time when fundraising here was coming to a halt. It has been a year of strong feelings, in which we have hang on very hard and ask the staff in Cambodia to do the same as well.

C’è ancora tanto da fare per la manutenzione del centro, con il rifacimento del tetto della parte più vecchia, acquistata nel 2014 e per l’arredo della parte nuova con quello che serve per bambini e insegnanti per poter lavorare al meglio nella nuova scuola. / There is still a lot to be done for the maintenance of the center, with the re-roofing of the older part, purchased in 2014, and the furnishing of the new part with what children and teachers need to be able to work at their best in the new school.
Vedremo il 2021 cosa ci riserva. Per il momento navighiamo a vista, cercando di tenere la barra a dritta e di proseguire quello che abbiamo avviato nell’ormai lontano 2013 e fatto crescere e coltivato in questi 7 anni intensissimi. / We’ll see what 2021 holds for us. For the moment, we are sailing by sight, trying to keep the rudder straight and continue what we started back in 2013 and have grown and cultivated in these 7 very intense years.

E’ stato un lungo viaggio da quando abbiamo iniziato a pensare all’ampliamento del nostro Centro di Domnak Chamboak, ma ora le nuove aule sono davvero pronte. / It’s been a long journey since we started thinking about expanding our Domnak Chamboak Centre, but now the new classrooms are really ready.
Come da usanze locali e così come fatto all’avvio dei lavori, anche alla chiusura dei lavori è prevista una cerimonia di benedizione e di buon augurio e ringraziamento per gli spiriti della terra, perchè accolgano benevolmente la nuova costruzione. / As per local custom and as done at the start of the works, a ceremony of blessing and good wishes and thanksgiving for the spirits of the earth is to be done, so that they may welcome with their best wishes the new construction.
