Nella notte tra il 6 e il 7 maggio scorso, un vero e proprio tornado si è abbattuto sul nostro villaggio di Domnak Chamboak danneggiando 23 case. 2 di queste sono state purtroppo completamente distrutte. / On the night of May 6-7, a real tornado struck our village of Domnak Chamboak, damaging 23 houses. 2 of them were unfortunately completely destroyed.

Nei giorni successivi le autorità locali hanno riunito le famiglie danneggiate e distribuito beni di conforto e generi alimentari oltre a piccole somme di denaro, graduate in funzione dei danni che sono stati subiti dalle case. Alle due famiglie che hanno completamente perso la loro casa sono stati consegnati circa 170 usd. / In the days that followed, local authorities gathered the damaged families and distributed comfort goods and foodstuffs as well as small amounts of money, graduated according to the damage that was caused to the houses. The two families who completely lost their homes were given about 170 usd.

Da parte nostra, non appena saputo di quanto avvenuto, abbiamo circolato l’informazione ai nostri donatori abituali e agli sponsor del Sostegno a Distanza e in breve tempo sono stati raccolti 1.650 euro che verranno destinati a supportare in particolare le due famiglie più danneggiate. / For our part, as soon as we learned of what had happened, we circulated the information to our regular donors and Distant Adoption sponsors, and in a short time 1,650 euros were raised, which will be allocated in particular to support the two most damaged families.

Una delle due case è quella di una delle nostre bimbe del Sostegno a Distanza. L’altra è quella di una famiglia che abitava nella parte del villaggio che sta al di là della strada Kep-Kampot. A quest’ultima famiglia la sorte peggiore, dato che non ha un altro luogo dove soggiornare e al momento vive accampata sotto una tenda improvvisata. La famiglia della nostra bimba ha trovato ospitalità a casa della nonna materna, dove si trovava anche la notte in cui la casa è stata distrutta. / One of the two houses is that of one of our Distant Adoption girls. The other is that of a family that lived in the part of the village that lies across the Kep-Kampot road. The latter family has the worst fate, as they have nowhere else to stay and are currently living camped under a makeshift tent. Our child’s family has found hospitality at her maternal grandmother’s house, where she was also staying the night the house was destroyed.

Fortunatamente non ci sono state vittime o feriti, quasi un miracolo, considerato che le lamiere di alcuni tetti sono state scagliate a centinaia di metri di distanza. La sorellina di uno dei nostri bambini, è stata letteralmente risucchiata fuori dalla sua casa e scaraventata a oltre 20 metri all’esterno. Per fortuna solo qualche botta e tanto spavento ma nulla di grave, anche se la piccola difficilmente dimenticherà questa esperienza. / Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries, almost a miracle considering that sheets of metal from some roofs were hurled hundreds of meters away. The little sister of one of our children, was literally sucked out of her house and thrown more than 20 meters outside. Fortunately only a few bumps and a lot of fear but nothing serious, although the little one will hardly forget this experience.

Per la prima famiglia, la prima cosa che il nostro staff ha fatto è stato fare assumere il padre dal costruttore che sta ricostruendo la parte più vecchia della recinzione del nostro Centro, in modo che possa stare a lavorare nel villaggio anziché tornare a Sihanoukville, a 130 km dal nostro villaggio, dove aveva trovato lavoro in precedenza. / For the first family, the first thing our staff did was to have the father hired by the builder who is rebuilding the older part of our Center’s fence, so that he can stay and work in the village instead of returning to Sihanoukville, 130 km from our village, where he had previously found work.

Per seconda la famiglia, i cui bambini non erano inclusi nei nostri programmi, il nostro staff ha provveduto a inserire il figlio più grande, che frequenta il primo anno della scuola superiore, nel nostro programma di sostegno scolastico; mentre la sorellina più piccola, che frequenta la scuola primaria, è stata inserita nel nostro Programma di Sostegno a Distanza e una dei nostri sponsor si è già fatta avanti per averla in Sostegno a Distanza. / For the second family, whose children were not included in our programs, our staff arranged for the older child, who attends the first year of high school, to be placed in our School Support Program; while the younger sister, who attends elementary school, was placed in our Distant Adoption Program and one of our sponsors has already come forward to have her in Distant Adoption.
