Un’altra partenza, un altro lungo viaggio verso la mia amata Cambogia. Per me questo è l’undicesimo viaggio in Cambogia e la ottava missione di Progetto al nostro Centro di Kep. / Another departure, another long journey to my beloved Cambodia. For me this is the 11th trip to Cambodia and the 8th Project mission to our Kep Center.

Ormai lavoriamo sul territorio di Kep da 10 anni. Il progetto fu dapprima pensato al tavolo di un ristorante a Phnom Penh nel luglio del 2012. Poi i primi passi a Kep a gennaio 2013 con l’incontro di Sokkea con i bambini che studiavano inglese con un volontario dei Salesiani di Kep sotto un albero di mango di fronte alla pagoda di Phnom Sorsea, la pagoda del nostro villaggio divenuta nel tempo anche attrazione turistica. / We have been working in Kep territory for 10 years. The project was first thought of at a restaurant table in Phnom Penh in July 2012. Then the first steps in Kep in January 2013 with a meeting in Sokkea with children studying English with a volunteer from the Salesians in Kep under a mango tree in front of Phnom Sorsea pagoda, the pagoda in our village that has also become a tourist attraction over time.

Poi i primi invii di materiale scolastico e banchi a marzo 2013 e il primo International Children Day il 1 Giugno 2013, quando all’incontro si presentarono non più solo i 50 bambini iniziali, ma arrivarono circa 200 bambini con le loro famiglie. / Then the first shipments of school supplies and desks in March 2013 and the first International Children Day on June 1, 2013, when not only the initial 50 children showed up at the meeting, but about 200 children and their families arrived.

Ricordo che Sokkea mi disse: “E adesso come facciamo?”. E la mia risposta fu che il nostro Centro sarebbe sempre stato centrato sui 50 bambini iniziali e gli altri li avremmo inseriti in Sostegno a Distanza. / I remember Sokkea saying to me, “What do we do now?” And my answer was that our Center would always be centered on the initial 50 children and the others we would put into Distant Support.

Tanti ricordi che tornano alla mente in questa ennesima partenza. / So many memories come flooding back in this umpteenth departure.

La partenza dall’Italia è con qualche malessere fisico. La missione parte in salita. Viaggiare accompagnati da mal di stomaco, nausea e febbre non è proprio il massimo. Forse una forma influenzale, ovviamente arrivata nel momento più sbagliato. / The departure from Italy is with some physical discomfort. The mission gets off to an uphill start. Traveling accompanied by stomach ache, nausea and fever is not exactly the best. Perhaps a form of flu, which obviously came at the wrongest time.

E infatti questa volta il viaggio è molto più lungo e complicato di altre volte. / And indeed, this time the journey is much longer and more complicated than other times.

Il volo da Francoforte a Bangkok è partito con un’ora di ritardo, e questo è un problema, perché domani mattina a Bangkok l’arrivo era previsto alle 6.30 del mattino, con il volo per Phnom Penh in partenza alle 7.30. Vediamo se come successo lo scorso anno mi toccherà correre da un capo all’altro dell’aeroporto di Suvarnabumi per prendere al volo l’aereo per la Cambogia. / The flight from Frankfurt to Bangkok left an hour late, which is a problem, because tomorrow morning in Bangkok I was scheduled to arrive at 6:30 am, with the flight to Phnom Penh leaving at 7:30 am. Let’s see if, as happened last year, I will have to run from one end of the Suvarnabumi airport to the other to catch the flight to Cambodia.
