Si avvicina la conclusione dei lavori di ristrutturazione del vecchio edificio del nostro Centro Diurno di Domnak Chamboak. / The completion of renovations to the old building of our Domnak Chamboak Day Care Center is approaching.
I lavori sono stati avviati nello scorso mese di novembre, all’avvio della stagione secca in Cambogia, e dovrebbero essere terminati nella prima parte di gennaio. / Work began last November, at the start of the dry season in Cambodia, and is expected to be completed in the first part of January.
I lavori, partiti per la sostituzione del tetto dell’edificio, sono diventati strada facendo una vera e propria profonda ristrutturazione dell’edificio (acquistato nel 2014 unitamente al primo lotto di terreno). / The work, which started just as replacement of the roof of the building, has actually become a real deep renovation of the building (purchased in 2014 along with the first plot of land).
Oltre al tetto si è provveduto a eliminare una colonna interna collocata proprio nel mezzo del locale centrale dell’edificio, a rimuovere i resti della cucina nel retro dell’edificio, ad aprire nuovi varchi per l’accesso posteriore dell’edificio e a completare la chiusura delle pareti nella parte superiore del soffitto alla congiunzione con il tetto. / In addition to the roof, an interior column located right in the middle of the central room of the building was removed, the remains of the kitchen in the back of the building were removed, new openings for the rear access of the building were opened, and the closure of the walls at the top of the ceiling at the junction with the roof was completed.
Il programma di investimenti per il 2022 è in fase di definizione in questi giorni e presto avremo la lista dei lavori aggiuntivi più urgenti da effettuare. Procedono celermente i lavori di ricostruzione del tetto del vecchio edificio nel nostro Centro Diurno di Domnak Chamboak. / Work is rapidly proceeding for the reconstruction of the roof of the old building at our Domnak Chamboak Day Care Center.
Il vecchio edificio era stato acquistato unitamente al primo lotto di terreno nel 2014 ed ha ospitato le attività del nostro Centro a partire dal mese di gennaio del 2015. / The old building had been purchased along with the first plot of land in 2014 and has housed our Center’s activities since January 2015.
Dato che dalla verifica dei materiali era risultata la presenza di Eternit, contenente purtroppo amianto, ed era stato evidenziato il pessimo stato della copertura esistente, siamo stati costretti a lanciare il progetto per la sostituzione dell’intero tetto. I lavori sono anche l’occasione per la sistemazione del tetto della parte centrale dell’edificio, adibita a uffici per il nostro staff, al fine di rispristinare la copertura, che negli ultimi anni aveva subito danni e infiltrazioni di acqua piovana, con danni alle attrezzature d’ufficio. / Since the verification of materials had shown the presence of Eternit, unfortunately containing asbestos, and had highlighted the poor condition of the existing roof, we were forced to launch the project for the replacement of the entire roof. The works are also an opportunity to fix the roof of the central part of the building, used as offices for our staff, in order to restore the roof, which in recent years had suffered damage and infiltration of rainwater, with damage to office equipment.
La conclusione dei lavori è prevista entro il corrente mese di dicembre o nei primi giorni di gennaio al più tardi. / Work is expected to be completed by this December or early January at the latest.
Nel frattempo si avvicina il momento della ripartenza delle nostre missioni a Domnak Chamboak. Gli amici Stefania Bertarini e Daniele Romano ci hanno comunicato la volontà di tornare al più presto laggiù. Il presidente Franco Farao, unitamente all’amico Silvio Zagli, sta pianificando una missione nella seconda metà di Marzo e la nostra Jane Hartley sta parimenti pianificando per Marzo-Aprile 2022. Poi come ormai usuale non mancheranno le liete sorprese di altri che vorranno aggiungersi a questa lista. / In the meantime, the time is approaching for the restart of our missions in Domnak Chamboak. Our friends Stefania Bertarini and Daniele Romano have communicated us their will to go back there as soon as possible. President Franco Farao, together with our friend Silvio Zagli, is planning a mission in the second half of March and our Jane Hartley is also planning for March-April 2022. Then, as usual, there will be the happy surprises of others who will add to this list.

Chiusa la stagione delle piogge in Cambogia, sono partiti finalmente i lavori per la riparazione del tetto dell’edificio più vecchio del nostro Centro Diurno nel villaggio di Domnak Chamboak. / With the rainy season in Cambodia over, work has finally begun on repairing the roof of the oldest building in our Day Care Center in the village of Domnak Chamboak.
I lavori hanno l’obiettivo di consentire la rimozione di materiali contenenti amianto e di migliorare la copertura del vecchi edificio, soggetto negli scorsi anni a infiltrazioni di acqua piovana che hanno anche provocato danni alle apparecchiature d’ufficio e ai materiali stoccati all’interno del nostro Centro. / The works aim at the removal of materials containing asbestos and to improve the roofing of the old building, subject in recent years to infiltration of rainwater that have also caused damage to office equipment and materials stored inside our Center.
Un altro passaggio importante della nostra attività in Cambogia, per il quale abbiamo lavorato durante tutto il 2021 per la raccolta dei fondi necessari ai lavori di riparazione. / Another important step of our activity in Cambodia, for which we have been working throughout 2021 to raise the necessary funds for the repair works.

Pubblichiamo alcune informazioni inviate dal nostro Responsabile di Progetto Chin Sokkea, sulla situazione del nostro Centro Diurno aggiornata alla fine del mese di Luglio / We publish some information sent by our Project Manager Chin Sokkea, on the situation of our Day Care Center updated at the end of July.
Attività del centro: il centro è rimasto aperto per l’intero mese di Luglio per l’accesso dei bambini che vengono a prendere i loro compiti e a ritirare le distribuzioni di alimentari. / Center Activities: the center remained open for the entire month of July for children to come in and pick up their homework and food distributions.
Sostegno alimentare: oltre al sostegno alimentare mensile per 119 bambini SAD, sono state effettuate distribuzioni di beni alimentari a 24 bambini del centro per offrire un sostegno alimentare con la consegna di una scatola di noodles.L’offerta di sostegno alimentare e la fornitura di compiti a casa per i bambini sono un buon modo per vedere i bambini ogni mese. Dalle notizie raccolte si evidenzia che diverse famiglie dei bambini del nostro centro stanno affrontando un problema di carenza di cibo./ Food support: in addition to monthly food support for 119 DAP children, food distributions were made to 24 children in the center to offer food support with the delivery of a box of noodles to each one of them. Offering food support and providing homework for the children is a good way to see the children each month. From the reports collected, it is evident that several families of the children in our center are facing a food shortage problem.
Distribuzione dei compiti ai bambini: quando alcuni abitanti del villaggio sono stati trovati affetti da Covid-19, abbiamo deciso di non permettere ai bambini di entrare all’interno del centro. Quindi al momento i bambini possono ricevere supporto alimentare e il loro pacchetto di compiti per la loro attività di studio all’esterno del centro. L’ingresso all’interno del centro sarà consentito ai bambini non appena la situazione Covid nel villaggio sarà migliorata. / Distribution of homework to children: when some villagers were found to be affected by Covid-19, we decided not to allow the children inside the center. So at the moment children can receive food support and their homework package for their study activity outside the center. Children will be allowed inside the center as soon as the Covid situation in the village improves.
In questo periodo di chiusura delle scuole alcuni dei nostri bambini hanno iniziato a lavorare nel loro tempo libero. A luglio, ci sono 10 bambini (5 maschi e 5 femmine) che hanno deciso di iniziare a lavorare nel tempo libero per guadagnare un po’ di soldi per sostenere le esigenze alimentari della famiglia. Questi bambini hanno deciso di impiegare il loro tempo lavorando perché non hanno uno smartphone o un computer per l’eLearning; hanno quindi deciso di trovare un lavoro non lontano dal villaggio, in modo da poter tornare a casa la sera. Quando le scuole riapriranno, auspicabilmente questi ragazzi torneranno a scuola. Quindi il loro impegno lavorativo non dovrebbe essere permanente (ci auguriamo, e terremo particolarmente monitorata la loro situazione). Attualmente 2 ragazzi lavorano come muratori con i padri, 1 ragazzo sta facendo apprendistato come artigiano nella produzione di piccola gioielleria, 1 ragazzo lavora al Crab Market (mercato del pesce e dei granchi) come venditore e 1 ragazzo ha seguito il padre nell’attività di pesca in mare. 1 ragazza lavora come barista e venditrice di caffè a Kampot, 3 ragazze lavorano nelle piantagioni per la raccolta di pepe, 1 ragazza vende succo di canna da zucchero al Crab Market. / During this time of school closure, some of our children have started working in their free time. In July, there are 10 children (5 boys and 5 girls) who decided to start working in their free time to earn some money to support their family’s food needs. These children decided to use their time working because they do not have a smartphone or computer for eLearning; therefore, they decided to find a job not far from the village so that they can go home in the evening. When schools reopen, hopefully these kids will go back to school. So their work commitment is not expected to be permanent (we hope, and we will be particularly monitoring their situation). Currently 2 boys are working as bricklayers with their fathers, 1 boy is apprenticing as a craftsman in the production of small jewelry, 1 boy is working at the Crab Market (fish and crab market) as a salesman and 1 boy has followed his father in the sea fishing business. 1 girl is working as a barmaid and coffee seller in Kampot, 3 girls are working in the plantations to harvest pepper, 1 girl is selling sugarcane juice at Crab Market.
Progetto di coltivazione: presso il centro è stato avviato un piccolo progetto di coltivazione di verdure e ortaggi. Vengono coltivate insalata, cavolo, pomodori, peperoncini ecc.. Quanto viene prodotto viene dato ai bambini che hanno più bisogno e ai bambini che stanno aiutando il centro nella coltivazione. Questa sta iniziando ad essere una buona attività per il personale e per i bambini che lo fanno nel loro tempo libero. Presto, dovrebbe anche arrivare una squadra di coltivatori che faranno formazione sia per il personale del centro che per i bambini. / Cultivation project: at the center it has been started a small project of cultivation of vegetables. Salad, cabbage, tomatoes, hot peppers, etc. are grown. What is produced is given to the children who need it most and to the children who are helping the center in the cultivation. This is starting to be a good activity for the staff and the children who do this in their spare time. Soon, there should also be a team of growers coming in to do training for both the center staff and the children.
Riparazione del tetto: una parte del tetto interno del vecchio edificio è stata danneggiata dalla caduta di noci di cocco causata dalla forte pioggia e dal vento durante un forte temporale nel mese di maggio; il tetto è quindi rimasto parzialmente rotto per due mesi senza essere riparato, in attesa dell’avvio del progetto di sistemazione complessiva del tetto con l’integrale rimozione dell’attuale materiale e la sostituzione con materiale nuovo e più moderno, oltre che non pericoloso come l’eternit attualmente presente. Tuttavia a causa delle infiltrazioni di acqua piovana nell’edificio, si è deciso deciso di fare una riparazione temporanea, per arrivare al momento in cui la sostituzione del l’intero tetto venga fatta (stiamo raccogliendo i fondi e ogni contributo in questo senso è sicuramente benvenuto). / Roof repair: a part of the internal roof of the old building has been damaged by falling coconuts caused by heavy rain and wind during a heavy storm in May; the roof has therefore remained partially broken for two months without being repaired, waiting for the start of the project of overall repair of the roof with the complete removal of the current material and replacement with new and more modern material, as well as not dangerous as the eternit currently present. However, due to the infiltration of rainwater into the building, it was decided to make a temporary repair, to get to the time when the replacement of the entire roof is done (we are collecting funds and any contribution in this regard is certainly welcome).
Situazione Vaccino Covid-19: ad oggi 9 componenti dello staff del centro hanno ricevuto la prima dose del vaccino. Così pure tutti gli abitanti del villaggio nell’area dove stiamo lavorando hanno avuto anche loro la prima dose. Al momento i ragazzi sotto i 18 anni non hanno ancora il permesso di avere la vaccinazione. / Covid-19 Vaccine situation: as of today, 9 staff members of the center have received the first dose of the vaccine. All the villagers in the area where we are working have also had their first dose. At the moment children under 18 years old are not yet allowed to have the vaccination.
Situazione generale nella Provincia di KEP: gli abitanti del villaggio hanno imparato a indossare la mascherina e a preoccuparsi del Covid-19 quando si sono verificati i primi 2 casi di morte. Attualmente il programma del governo provinciale di KEP è quello di fare un test Covid-19 a tutti i venditori nella provincia di KEP il mese prossimo (ndr Agosto). / General situation in KEP Province: villagers learned to wear masks and be cautious about Covid-19 when the first 2 cases of death occurred. Currently the plan of KEP provincial government is to do a Covid-19 test to all vendors in KEP province next month (i.e. August).

I bambini della scuola primaria non hanno ancora lezione alla scuola pubblica e non c’è e-Learning; sono disponibili solo i compiti forniti dal nostro centro. / Elementary school children still do not have public school classes and there is no e-Learning; only homework provided by our center is available.
Solo alcuni bambini della scuola secondaria e della scuola superiore possono accedere all’e-learning, altri non possono perché non hanno uno smartphone. / Only some secondary and high school children can access e-Learning, others cannot because they do not have a smartphone.

L’attività di sostegno di progetti di altre ONG in Cambogia nei primi due anni di attività 2011 e 2012, con il sostegno del Centro di Via del Campo e di Neak Loeung di CIFA e dell’orfanotrofio di Happy Land realizzato dalla ONG di Hong Kong Happy Tree fuori Phnom Penh (proseguito fino al 2016). La visita al villaggio nella discarica di Phnom Penh nel 2012. / Supporting other NGOs’ projects in Cambodia in the first two years in 2011 and 2012, with support for CIFA’s Via del Campo and Neak Loeung Center and Happy Tree’s (a Hong Kong based NGO) Happy Land Orphanage outside Phnom Penh (continued through 2016). Poi l’avvio del Progetto a Kep nel 2013 e l’avvio del Progetto Sostegni a Distanza con la nostra organizzazione gemella Shade for Children che da allora gestisce operativamente il Progetto. A fine 2014 la costruzione della copertura esterna per formare uno spazio coperto da utilizzare come aula e come spazio per gli eventi e la costruzione della biblioteca, con il contributo decisivo di uno sponsor corporate che ci donò la somma necessaria per la campagna natalizia. / At the end of 2014, the construction of the external roof to form a covered space to be used as a classroom and as a space for events and the construction of the library, with the decisive contribution of a corporate sponsor who donated us the necessary sum for the Christmas campaign.
L’avvio della scuola di danza tradizionale Khmer nel 2015, con la formazione del nostro mini corpo di ballo, che veniva anche invitato agli eventi delle scuole e delle altre organizzazioni di charity nella provincia di Kep. / The start of the traditional Khmer dance school in 2015, with the formation of our mini dance troupe, which was also being invited to events of schools and other charity organizations in Kep province.
La continua crescita dei bambini assistiti dal nostro Centro, adesso ben oltre i 200, con i Sostegni a Distanza in crescita di anno in anno fino a raggiungere i 126 nel corso del 2020. / The continuous growth of children assisted by our Center, now well over 200, with Distant Adoptions growing year by year until it reached 126 in 2020.
Tutte le migliorie apportate al nostro Centro, con lo scavo di un nuovo pozzo, la posa di nuovi lavandini per i bambini sia nella parte posteriore che nella parte anteriore del Centro, la sistemazione di quella che era la vecchia porcilaia con la rimozione di tutti i residui e la pavimentazione della parte posteriore del Centro. / All of the improvements made to our Center, including digging a new well, installing new sinks for the children in both the back and front of the Center, fixing up what was the old pigpen with all the debris removed, and paving the back of the Center.
E intanto qui in Italia partivano e si intensificavano le relazioni con il Gruppo UBI per il Progetto Un Giorno in dono, che portava volontari della banca a scendere sul campo con noi a fare raccolta fondi e distribuzioni di materiale. L’entrata nell’Istituto Italiano Donazione con il riconoscimento del logo Associazione Riconosciuta da IID. L’avvio del progetto “Adotta una famiglia”, in collaborazione con i servizi sociali del Comune di Mariano, che ci ha permesso di dare supporto ad alcune famiglie monogenitore in difficoltà. Il progetto di sostegno di una scuola di Fabriano colpita dal terremoto in Centro Italia del 2016. / In the meantime, here in Italy, relations with UBI banking Group began and intensified for the Un Giorno in dono project, which brought volunteers from the bank into the field with us to raise funds and distribute material. Nel 2017 e nel 2018 partecipiamo, grazie all’inserimento in IID, all’iniziativa di Coop Lombardia, “Una mano per la scuola” che ci consente di raccogliere oltre 10.000 euro di materiale scolastico, distribuito l’anno successivo a oltre una ventina di scuole, asili, doposcuola, scuole per stranieri, collocate sul nostro territorio. / In 2017 and 2018 we participate, thanks to the inclusion in IID, in the initiative of Coop Lombardia, “A hand for the school” that allows us to collect over 10,000 euros of school supplies, distributed the following years to over twenty schools, kindergartens, after-school, schools for foreigners, located in our territory.
Nel 2019 parte il progetto di ampliamento del nostro Centro a Kep, con l’acquisto a gennaio del terreno adiacente alla nostra sede e con i primi lavori di sistemazione e livellamento, oltre che di recinzione e sistemazione della strada di accesso. / In 2019, the project to expand our Center in Kep gets underway, with the purchase in January of the land adjacent to our headquarters and the initial work of landscaping and leveling, as well as fencing and fixing the access road.
Sempre nel 2019 siamo ammessi al progetto “La Spesa che fa bene” per il sociale, organizzata da Iperal sul territorio, e destiniamo i fondi raccolti per il supporto del nostro progetto “Adotta una famiglia”. L’iniziativa si è ripetuta quest’anno, ancora con focus sul supporto di famiglie in ambito locale. / Also in 2019 we are admitted to the project “La Spesa che fa bene” for social, organized by Iperal in the territory, and we allocate the funds collected for the support of our project “Adopt a family”. The initiative was repeated this year, again with a focus on supporting families in the local area.
Nel 2020 parte la costruzione del nuovo edificio destinato ad accogliere 4 nuove aule. L’avvio dei lavori è a febbraio, con la cerimonia di benedizione del terreno destinato ad accogliere il nuovo edificio, alla presenza delle nostre volontarie Jane Hartley e Fernanda Elli. / In 2020, construction begins on the new building intended to house 4 new classrooms. The start of construction is in February, with a ceremony to bless the land destined to house the new building, attended by our volunteers Jane Hartley and Fernanda Elli.
La costruzione procede veloce fino al completamento alla fine di luglio del 2020. Il tutto in piena pandemia che blocca la gran parte delle iniziative di raccolta fondi qui in Italia e le iniziative del nostro Centro in Cambogia, che rimane chiuso per la maggior parte del 2020, anche se in Cambogia allora si registravano poche centinaia di casi di Covid e nessun decesso. / Construction proceeded quickly until completion at the end of July 2020. All this in the midst of the pandemic crisis that halts most of the fundraising initiatives here in Italy and the initiatives of our Center in Cambodia, which remains closed for most of 2020, although in Cambodia at that time there were a few hundred cases of Covid and no deaths.
La realizzazione delle nuove aule è l’ultimo evento di questa storia decennale, l’ultimo in ordine di tempo, non certo l’ultimo perchè abbiamo concluso la nostra missione in Cambogia, tanto che già oggi abbiamo lanciato il progetto per la sistemazione del tetto della parte vecchia del Centro dove vanno fatte sia riparazioni che sostituzioni di materiali divenuti obsoleti e pericolosi. In tutti questi anni è stato fondamentale il supporto dei volontari che hanno messo a disposizione il loro tempo, le loro risorse e le loro energie per dare un contributo allo sviluppo del progetto. E così pure in tutti questi anni, ci ha accompagnato un evento che in certo modo è diventato un po’ il nostro simbolo, Io Disegno per la Cambogia, che partito già prima della costituzione della Onlus, nel 2009, è proseguito con cadenza annuale fino alla undicesima edizione del 2019 ed è stato interrotto solo dal Covid nel 2020, per la prima volta da quando esiste l’associazione. Un appuntamento e una tradizione che ci auguriamo di poter riprendere al più presto, magari anche già da questo 2021, che qualche spiraglio di speranza di uscita dalla situazione pandemica sta iniziando a darlo, pur con tutte le prudenze del caso. / And so, in all these years, we have been accompanied by an event that has become our symbol, Io Disegno per la Cambogia (Drawing for Cambodia), which started before the establishment of the non-profit organization, in 2009, and continued on an annual basis until the eleventh edition in 2019 and was interrupted only by Covid in 2020, for the first time since the association has existed. An appointment and a tradition that we hope to be able to resume as soon as possible, perhaps even as early as this 2021, which is beginning to give some glimmer of hope of exit from the pandemic situation, albeit with all the caution of the case.
Importantissima adesso è per noi la campagna per il 5 per mille dell’IRPEF, destinata a dare ulteriore solidità presente e futura al progetto. / Vitally important for us now is the campaign for the 5 per thousand of IRPEF (italian support of no profit organizations through the voluntary destination of 0,5% of each contributor’s taxes), intended to give further present and future strength to the project.

L’Assemblea Ordinaria degli Associati del 24 aprile 2021 ha approvato il Bilancio Consuntivo 2020 e la Relazione di Missione di A Smile for Cambodia Onlus. / The Ordinary Assembly of the Associates of April 24, 2021 approved the Final Balance Sheet 2020 and the Mission Report of A Smile for Cambodia Onlus.
L’anno 2020, particolarmente difficile, si chiude con fondi raccolti per 75.929 euro, a fronte dei quali si registrano costi di gestione per 2.251 euro, costi correlati alle iniziative di raccolta fondi per 4.142 euro ed erogazioni ai progetti per 78.405 euro. / 2020, a particularly difficult year, closes with funds raised for 75,929 euros, against which there are management costs for 2,251 euros, costs related to fundraising initiatives for 4,142 euros and contributions to projects for 78,405 euros.
Al netto dei costi finanziari, relativi esclusivamente alle spese bancarie dell’unico conto su cui l’associazione opera, il Risultato di Gestione risulta negativo per 9.233 euro. Questo principalmente in relazione all’importante sforzo sostenuto per il completamento del nuovo edificio che ospita le nuove aule, che ha comportato l’erogazione nel solo 2020, per tale specifica iniziativa, di contributi alla nostra organizzazione gemella Shade for Children per 28.012 euro. / Net of financial costs, related exclusively to bank expenses of the only account on which the association operates, the Operating Result is negative for 9,233 euros. Alla fine del 2020 erano anche attivi 120 Sostegni a Distanza, con 109 sostenitori italiani e 11 sostenitori stranieri (da USA, UK, Francia, Israele). / At the end of 2020 there were also 120 active Distant Adoptions, with 109 Italian supporters and 11 foreign supporters (from USA, UK, France, Israel).

L’Assemblea degli Associati ha anche provveduto al rinnovo delle cariche sociali con la nomina dei componenti del Consiglio Direttivo per il periodo 2021-2025 (fino all’approvazione del bilancio 2025). / The Shareholders’ Meeting also voted for the renewal of the social offices with the appointment of the members of the Board of Directors for the period 2021-2025 (until the approval of the 2025 Financial results).

Sono stati pubblicati nell’apposita sezione del nostro sito gli aggiornamenti dei rendiconti relativi ai fondi ricevuti dalla nostra associazione nel corso del 2020 da 5 per mille dell’IRPEF, con riferimento agli esercizi finanziari 2018 e 2019.
Avviso importante a tutti i nostri donatori e amici. L’attuale IBAN del nostro conto corrente presso UBIBANCA cambierà a partire dal 22 Febbraio 2021, a causa della cessione della Sede di Via Manzoni 7, Milano da UBIBANCA a Bper Banca (Banca Popolare dell’Emilia Romagna). I vecchi riferimenti bancari rimarranno comunque attivi per un periodo transitorio in modo da consentire un passaggio senza intoppi ai nuovi riferimenti del conto, ma prendete nota ed iniziate ad utilizzare i nuovi riferimenti sin da Lunedì 22 Febbraio.
